Kandi Technologies Corp. plans to begin selling electric cars in 26 Chinese provinces, Bloomberg News reports.
Based in Jinhua, the 12-year-old company makes EVs, go-karts, all-terrain vehicles and three-wheeled motorcycles. Kandi has been renting its EVs by the hour in eight cities and plans to expand the service to 15 municipalities this year. The company says the expansion will increase its fleet of rental electrics from 15,000 to 25,000.
Chairman Hu Xiaoming tells Bloomberg that moving into retail sales will help Kandi heighten its brand awareness and capture market share. The company plans to introduce its new five-passenger K17 EV in June and add the two-seat K12 a few months later.
Bloomberg says Kandi and venture partner Geely Automobile Holdings Ltd., will equip the two models with sensors that automatically slow the vehicle when another car is within 1.5 meters.
