Jaguar Land Rover Ltd., which currently offers no hybrid or all-electric models, says half its vehicles will offer one or the other powertrain options by the end of the decade.
Earlier this week the company unveiled the I-Pace, a hybrid concept based on its conventionally powered F-Pace crossover, at the Los Angeles auto show. A production version of the sporty model will debut in 2018.
JLR signaled an impending shift to electrification last year by announcing plans to double the size of its powertrain engineering facility in the U.K., mainly to accelerate development of lower-emission vehicles. CEO Ralf Speth indicated to Reuters two months ago that the company was pondering local production of batteries and electric vehicles in England.
