An engine fire in a 2015 model Jeep Cherokee SUV has prompted a defect investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The Jeep was purchased on Jan. 2, and the owner reported an "oily smell" two days later. The vehicle later emitted white smoke and then caught fire after being parked and switched off. The owner says the vehicle was quickly enveloped in 20-foot-tall flames and destroyed.
