Japanese authorities have released Julie Hamp, the former Toyota Motor Corp. executive, who was arrested on June 18 for receiving a package of prescription painkillers without government permission.
Hamp said she didn't realize that having dozens of pills of the narcotic pain reliever oxycodone shipped to her would violate Japanese law. She resigned her post as head of Toyota's global communications on June 30, three months after being appointed to the post.
Toyota has appointed Shigeru Hayakawa, a senior managing officer, to assume Hamp's role as chief communications officer.
