Jaguar Land Rover Ltd. plans to establish a factory in Austria to make as many as 10,000 electric Jaguar cars per year beginning in 2016, according to The Sunday Times. The London-based newspaper offers no other details.

Media reports have speculated about JLR's plans to build an electric Jaguar or Land Rover model since the company unveiled a small fleet of experimental Land Rover Defender electric SUVs two years ago.

Autocar cites an unnamed source who says JLR's first electric will be a variant of the Jaguar F-Pace five-passenger crossover due next year. Other reports speculate the EV will have a 300-mile range. Several note that last autumn Jaguar trademarked the name "EV-Type" in the U.S. and Europe.
