Jaguar Land Rover Ltd. plans to launch an all-electric series late next year to support the four-year-old Formula E electric car circuit.
The one-make series, called I-Pace eTrophy, will feature race car variants of Jaguar’s upcoming I-Pace electric crossover/SUV. Races will take place on the same weekend and venues as Formula E events.
As many 20 I-Pace cars will compete in the 10-race series. The vehicles will be built at JLR’s Special Vehicle Operations in Warwickshire, England.
Teams can purchase a package that includes a vehicle, storage and transport, technical support and the necessary equipment. Prices will be announced next year.
Earlier this month JLR said it will offer hybrid and all-electric powertrain options in all new Jaguar and Range Rover vehicles in 2020. Jaguar, which already competes in Formula E, expects to further enhance its EV technology and promote the I-Pace with the new series.
