Jag F-Type Gets New Look

Jaguar Ltd. is giving its F-Type coupe/convertible a makeover that includes a redesigned front-end, upgraded interior and a more powerful V-8 engine.

The 2020 model features a new clamshell hood and larger grille that are designed to make the car look longer and wider, despite it being the same size as the outgoing car. Other changes include slimmer LED headlights that are framed by distinctive daytime-running lights.

The taillights also are skinnier with a “chicane” design that was introduced on the I-Pace electric crossover vehicle. The current F-Type’s muscular rear haunch is unchanged.

Three trim lines will be available, which will be differentiated in part by unique lower bumper shapes.

Among the interior highlights are a 12.3-inch reconfigurable digital instrument cluster and higher-end trim materials. The car’s 10-inch infotainment touchscreen adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone compatibility.

Buyers can choose between two seating designs: sport and performance. The latter has more pronounced shoulder supports. “Jaguar est. 1935” badging has been added on the seatbelt guides and glovebox.

The base 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, and a mid-level 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 that makes 375 hp and 339 lb-ft of torque, are carried over. A new 5.0-liter V-8 has been added that makes 444 hp.

Output of the top-end 5.0-liter supercharged V-8 has been increased from 550 hp and 502 lb-ft to 567 hp and 516 lb-ft. The engine can propel the F-Type from zero to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds on its way to a top speed of 186 mph.

All engines will be mated with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The 6-speed manual option is being dropped. All-wheel drive is optional on select models. 

Deliveries of the 2020 model F-Type are due to start early next year.
