Hyundai Motor Co. is preparing to recall 62,800 of its 2015-2016 model Sonata midsize sedans because their glass panoramic sunroofs could come loose as the vehicles are being driven. The campaign covers regular and hybrid models.
The base problem is an improperly bonded wind deflector mount. If it loosens after the sunroof is opened, it could block the sunroof from closing. If the driver tries to force the sunroof closed anyway, the sunroof panel may break loose and fall away.
Hyundai reports no crashes or injuries but notes several of the sunroofs have fallen off. When the recall begins in December, dealers will remount the wind deflector mounting plate.
