Hyundai Motor Co. is recalling nearly 305,000 Sonata midsize cars in the U.S. to replace a faulty brake pedal stopper pad that can cause the brake lights to stay on.
The campaign affects select 2011-2012 model Sonatas. No accidents or injuries related to the problem have been reported, according to Hyundai.
The stopper pad between the brake pedal and the plunger that turns the lights on can deteriorate. As a result, the plunger may remain extended, thus keeping the brake lights on after the brake pedal has been released.
If the switch plunger isn’t retracted, the transmission also can be shifted out of “Park” without depressing the brake pedal.
