Hyundai Motor Co. says its upcoming Ioniq hybrid-electric sedan will have a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency fuel economy rating of 58 mpg (57 mpg city/59 mpg highway).

The hybrid system teams a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder direct-injection engine with an electric motor and lithium-ion battery pack. The combination produces 104 hp and 109 lb-ft of torque.

Hyundai introduced the Ioniq hybrid early this year in South Korea. U.S. sales are due to begin in early 2017.

Hyundai also is launching full-electric and plug-in hybrid variants of the Ioniq. The electric model is due to arrive in the U.S. by year-end, while the plug-in model is expected to bow next autumn.
