Fisker Automotive Inc. says last week's Hurricane Sandy ruined about 340 of its $103,000 Karma plug-in hybrid luxury cars.

The vehicles had been shipped to the Port of Newark in New Jersey for distribution to buyers on the East Coast. The storm destroyed an estimated 10,000 other new vehicles at the port.

The National Auto Dealers Assn. estimates the storm damaged about 200,000 vehicles including 15,000 new cars and trucks that were sitting on dealer lots that may eventually be scrapped.
