Honda Motor Co. now expects to sell 725,000 cars in Japan in the fiscal year that began April, down from 788,200 units delivered in the previous 12-month period, The Nikkei reports.
Honda previously forecast its domestic sales would decline 6% to 740,900 vehicles this year. But volume plunged 14% to 263,000 units in April-August. The company plans no new model introductions through the remainder of the fiscal year, according to the newspaper.
Honda intends to maintain its current domestic production target of about 850,000 units by transferring 80,000 units to Japan from overseas factories. But The Nikkei says the company will cancel Saturday shifts at two plants in Japan, beginning in October.
