Honda Motor Co. says it now has enough parts in hand to complete a recall of some 390,000 cars in Malaysia to replace Takata Corp. airbag inflators that could explode in a crash.
The company has replaced about 45% of the targeted driver’s frontal airbag inflators already. But until now it says a shortage of inflators had slowed the pace of the recall.
Honda is among more than a dozen carmakers that are recalling roughly 100 million vehicles worldwide to replace Takata inflators. The devices have been blamed for 13 fatalities and more than 100 injuries, almost all of them occurring in Honda vehicles. The inflators most likely to misfire are located in climates that are hot and humid.
