China’s Hybrid Kinetic Group Ltd. (HKG) and Italian design house Pininfarina SpA teamed up on two hybrid-electric concept crossover/SUVs at this week’s Shanghai auto show.
The two new models are the five-seat K550 and the seven-seat K750. They follow the HKG’s H600 concept sedan that was unveiled at last month’s Geneva auto show.
All three vehicles were designed by Pininfarina and feature HKG’s turbine-hybrid system, which teams a micro-turbine with a pair of electric motors. The turbine can partially charge the vehicle’s graphene battery pack and act as a range extender. HKG says the battery weighs 200 lbs and takes up half the space of an internal combustion engine.
The microturbine delivers 80 hp and is designed to run on a variety of fuels. No performance figures were given for the SUVs. HKG claims the sedan can generate 800 hp and has a 620-mile driving range.
HKG aims to launch the H600 early next decade and the SUVs shortly thereafter. The company also builds the electric HK eBus, and it supplies electric motors, lithium-ion batteries and battery management systems for electric and hybrid vehicles. The company also builds the electric HK eBus and is developing graphene battery technology.
