Germany’s Hella KGaA Hueck & Co. has opened a new electronics plant in Apaseo el Grande, Mexico.

The 118,400-sq-ft facility will supply carmakers in North America with body control units, control devices for electronic power steering and key fobs. At launch, the plant will employ 250 people.

Hella also recently expanded the combined floorspace of two existing lighting plants in El Salto and Irapuato, Mexico, by 25% to more than 850,000 sq ft. The increase enabled Hella to add production of LED headlights and rear combination lamps.

Hella says its revenue in North, Central and South America is growing at about 15% per year. The company’s automotive sales in the region totaled €1 billion ($1.2 billion) in the most recent fiscal year.
