Volkswagen AG has slashed its forecast for full-year global sales by 300,000 units to 9.4 million vehicles because of Europe's weak economy, Handelsblatt reports.

The German daily cites unidentified company sources who say Europe accounts for 250,000 units of the reduction.

VW has previously predicted that its group vehicle sales this year will top last year's 8.3 million units. The company boosted global sales 9% year on year to 5.19 million vehicles in the January-July period.

Earlier this week VW denied an unattributed report in Automobilwoche that the company told suppliers it might cut European production by 10% this autumn.
