China’s Guangzhou Automobile Group says it hopes to enter the U.S. car market in 2019 with the help of its partner in China, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV.
President Feng Xingya tells Bloomberg News that the company has established a trade presence in 14 countries overseas just this year. He says FCA and Guangzhou are discussing ways to expand their alliance beyond China, where market growth is expected to remain at 5% in 2018.
Guangzhou markets cars in China under the Trumpchi brand, which it launched established well before Donald Trump became president of the U.S. Feng says Guangzhou will, if necessary, choose a name for its cars in the U.S. that consumers are confident and comfortable with.
