General Motors Co. confirms reports that it will end production of the Cadillac ELR plug-in hybrid coupe after the first-generation of the car has completed its run—possibly after the 2016-model year.

There will be no additional investment in the vehicle, Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen tells reporters. Other company officials have called the ELR, which uses the same extended-range hybrid electric powertrain as the Chevrolet Volt, a “big disappointment.”

Sales of the ELR plunged 22% last year to just over 1,000 units. Buyers balked at the car’s hefty $76,000 sticker price when it was launched in late 2013. The base price of 2016 models has been slashed by about $10,000.
