Johan de Nysschen, who took over as global head of General Motors Co.'s Cadillac brand on Aug. 1, may add or move some of the unit's operations most likely sales and marketing from Detroit to New York City, Automotive News opines.
Cadillac acknowledges only that it could expand its staff, adding that there are no immediate plans to do so.
The newspaper, which cites no sources, theorizes that de Nysschen might relocate some of Cadillac's staff to Manhattan in an effort to attract new talent and bolster the marque. Cadillac's sales in the U.S. fell 2% to 97,400 units in January-July. Over the same period the brand was outsold by Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, which grew 13%, 12% and 9%, respectively, according to Autodata Corp.
AN points out that as head of Nissan Motor Co.'s Infiniti luxury brand, de Nysschen relocated the brand's entire headquarters from Japan to Hong Kong in 2012. He quit last month to join GM.
