General Motors Co says it expects to add more than 500 jobs at its Tonawanda, N.Y., powertrain plant, about a 50% jump in the workforce there, as production of three new engines begins early next year.
The factory will make 5.3- and 6.2-liter V-8s and a 4.3-liter V-6 that will power GM's latest generation of Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra fullsize pickup trucks.
The company says as many as 300 of the jobs could go to laid-off workers from nearby plants of GM's former parts making unit, Delphi Automotive LLP.
