General Motors Co. is preparing to recall 132,900 large sedans to fix an electronic parking brake that may not fully release when the car is moving.
The campaign involves 2013-2015 model Cadillac XTS and 2014-2015 model Chevrolet Impala large sedans.
If the parking brake sticks, the system could overheat and cause a fire. A dragging brake would inhibit normal acceleration and cause unexpected deceleration when the accelerator pedal is released, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration notes. The problem also would reduce fuel efficiency.
NHTSA attributes the flaw to a control software glitch that will be eliminated by a dealer-installed update.
