General Motors Co. has been quietly offering owners of the 2.6 million cars it is recalling to fix defective ignition switches deep discounts usually available only to its employees, The Wall Street Journal reports.
Owners can apply the discount to buy a new 2013-2015 model Chevrolet, Buick, GMC or Cadillac vehicle. The program enables a customer to buy a vehicle below invoice price and still apply other rebates.
The new program replaces a $500 rebate GM began offering in March to owners affected by the recall.
