Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn tells reporters he expects the auto industry's worldwide sales to rise 3%-4% this year to a record 82 million units.
He forecasts growth in China, India, the Middle East, Russia, southeast Asia and the U.S. that will more than offset an estimated 3% drop in the European auto market.
Ghosn says Japan's car sales also will shrink unless the government renews incentives on fuel-efficient vehicles. He warns that Japanese carmakers may be forced to cut their outlooks for China if anti-Japan consumer sentiment there persists.
