Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn predicts China’s passenger car market will expand 5%-6% this year in spite of the country's cooling economic growth.

He tells The Nikkei China has matured enough to make it more properly comparable to Europe, Japan and the U.S. than to emerging economies.

Ghosn notes that even 5% growth in China means about 1 million additional vehicle sales, which he considers a “very healthy” pace. Nissan sales in China rose 6% to 159,100 vehicles in 2015.

Ghosn says Nissan remains on track to boost both its global market share and operating profit margin to 8% by the end of March 2017. He expects results to be aided by continued strong performance in North America.
