Germany's trade surplus in September hit a record high €18.8 billion from a revised €15.8 million in August, according to the country's Federal Statistics Office.
The agency reports that Germany's exports rose 1.7% to €92.8 billion in September. Imports fell 1.9% to €73.9 billion.
Critics, which include the International Monetary Fund and the U.S., complain that Germany's growing surplus comes at the expense of other European countries. But Germany says most of its exports are to markets outside the eurozone.
