BMW, Daimler and Volkswagen reportedly are in talks with German service station operator Tank & Rast about adding electric vehicle chargers at the company’s 400 autobahn service centers.

Tank & Rast is already adding charging points for EVs but wants to expand its network, Bild Zeitung reports. It says a deal with the carmakers would involve equip all the company’s autobahn facilities by the end of 2017.

Reuters notes that Germany’s National Electric Mobility Platform advisory group says the country will need more than 7,000 fast-charging points by 2020 compared with 230 in service today. The government’s €1 billion program to support EVs has set aside €300 to fund for new charging stations.
