The average price of a gallon of gasoline in the U.S. begins this week at $2.14, down from $2.21 a week ago and $3.32 a year ago, according to the AAA Daily fuel Gauge Report.

The 33% decline in the past 12 months isn't likely to reverse anytime soon. The U.S. Energy Information Administration currently expects retail gasoline prices to average $2.60 per gallon this year compared with $3.37 in 2014, $3.51 in 2013 and $3.63 in 2012.
