French prosecutors are investigating fees paid by the Renault-Nissan alliance to security analyst and a former French official who is now running for mayor of Paris.
The payments were made by Renault-Nissan BV, the Dutch holding company that coordinates the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance. The recipients were security consultant Alain Bauer and Rachida Dati, France’s former minister of justice.
Both were paid by RNBV as consultants, the Financial Times reports. It says the investigation was sparked by the complaint of an unidentified Renault shareholder of “the reckless use” of Renault funds.
In January, Renault and Nissan hired French auditors Mazars Group to look into possible financial misconduct by RNBV. Renault, Nissan, Mitsubishi and the holding company all were chaired by Carlos Ghosn until shortly after his arrest last November on suspicion of financial wrongdoing.
