Automakers are expected to sell 4.74 million new cars, commercial vehicles and buses in Japan this year compared to 5.36 million units in 2012, The Nikkei reports, citing an industry forecast.

The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Assn. expects volume to fall below the 5 million-unit mark because consumers are waiting longer to replace their vehicles, and government subsidies for fuel-efficient cars have expired.

Sales will slide 13% to 3.98 million units for passenger cars, 5% to 745,400 units for trucks and 5% to 11,400 units for buses, the group forecasts.
