Ford Motor Co. says it will unveil a European version of its controversial MyFord Touch infotainment control system at the Frankfurt auto show next month.
Ford will show the system in an S-Max concept MPV, introduce it on production cars next year and eventually offer the feature in all models sold in Europe.
Introduced in the U.S. in the 2011 model year, MyFord Touch is a $1,000 option that centralizes infotainment, communication, navigation and climate controls on large touchscreens. The system incorporates Ford's $300 Sync voice-activated control, a feature already available in Europe.
In the U.S., about four in five new Ford vehicles are equipped with Sync or MyFord Touch. The latter system has been upgraded repeatedly as Ford struggled to address user complaints that the technology is unreliable.
