Ford Motor Co. says the thriftiest version of its new 3-cylinder-powered Fiesta subcompact sedan has been rated as America's most fuel-efficient non-hybrid car.
The special Fiesta SE model is equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission, rear spoiler, side air deflectors, underbody aerodynamics, lower grille blockers and low-rolling-resistance tires. The car's tiny turbocharged engine makes 123 hp and 125 lb-ft of torque.
The combination has been rated by the Environmental Protection Agency at 32 mpg in the city, 45 mpg on the highway and 37 mpg in combined driving. Ford claims the car's combination of fuel economy and engine power tops all other conventionally powered cars currently offered in the U.S.
The car, which will be base-priced at $16,700, will go on sale in the U.S. before year-end.
