Ford Recalls Target Suspension, Transmission Flaws

Ford Motor Co. is recalling 1.2 million of its Ford Explorer SUVs to replace rear suspension links that could break and interfere with steering control.
Separately, Ford is repeating part of an earlier campaign to fix a software flaw that could cause certain 2013 model F-150 pickup trucks to unexpectedly downshift to first gear.
Ford says the links may crack if the vehicle is subjected to especially rough driving conditions that repeatedly fully flex the rear suspension. Dealers will replace the parts with forged components and perform a rear wheel alignment.
The F-Series transmission recall covers 123,000 trucks in North America that are equipped with 5.0-liter or 6.2-liter gasoline engines and 6-speed automatic transmissions. These vehicles are part of a larger group that was recalled in February for the same problem, but the software update process wasn’t complete.
