Ford Motor Co. is recalling 50,500 plug-in and all-electric cars in the U.S. and Canada to replace a 120-volt charging cord that could cause a fire.
The callback targets certain 2012-2015 model Focus Electric cars, 2013-2015 model Fusion Energi plug-in sedans (pictured) and 2013-2015 C-Max Energy plug-in multipurpose vehicles.
Affected cars were originally equipped with a charging cord that could allow the plug they are used with to overheat if the plug is damaged, corroded or not on a dedicated circuit. Dealers will replace the cord with an updated version that is fitted with a thermistor to prevent overheating.
