C-Max Energi, the plug-in version of Ford Motor Co.'s new C-Max compact MPV hybrid, has earned an Environmental Protection Agency city rating of 108 miles per gallon equivalent.

The result beats the Toyota Prius plug-in by 5 mpg-e, making the $30,000 vehicle the most fuel-efficient plug-in offered in America.

The plug-in C-Max is powered by a four-cylinder engine and electric motor that deliver a combined 195 hp. The plug-in can travel about 20 miles in electric mode at a top speed of 85 mph and has an overall range of 550 miles.

Ford is introducing the C-Max Energy in 19 markets now and will expand availability to all 50 states in early 2013.
