Ford Motor Co. is urging North American owners of certain 2006 model Ranger pickup trucks not to drive their vehicles until the trucks’ Takata Corp. airbag inflators are replaced.
The recall targets 3,000 of the compact trucks, including 190 sold in Canada. Affected vehicles were made at Ford’s former Twin Cities Assembly Plant in St. Paul, Minn., between Aug. 10, 2005, and Dec. 15, 2005.
Ford reports two fatalities in Ranger trucks since July. Both incidents involved misfiring Takata driver-side frontal inflators that had been manufactured on the same day.
If necessary, Ford will retrieve affected trucks directly from owners, make permanent repairs and return the vehicles. Dealers also are prepared to provide free loaner vehicles to owners until repairs are completed.
Ranger owners can determine if their vehicles are part of the recall by clicking HERE.
