Ford Motor Co. has urged the owners of an additional 33,400 Ranger midsize pickup trucks in North America not to drive their vehicles until dealers replace the explosion-prone Takata airbag inflators on board.
The warning applies to certain 2006 model Rangers and 2006 model Mazda B-Series pickups. Last month Ford issued a similar advisory for 3,000 of the trucks after learning of two fatalities caused by misfiring Takata inflators that had been manufactured on the same day.
The “don’t-drive” caution now applies to 33,600 Ford trucks and 2,000 Mazda pickups. Ford says it dealers will collect the trucks, provide a loaner and return the repaired vehicles. The affected trucks are part of a broader recall to replace the driver and passenger frontal airbag inflators in 391,400 of Ford’s 2004-2006 Rangers.
Ford owners can determine if their truck is part of the campaigns by entering their vehicle’s ID number (VIN) here.
