Fiat SpA has told its unions that it plans to add a second shift next week at the factory in Turin, Italy, that builds Maserati cars, according to Reuters, which cites unidentified sources.
The plant, which currently makers the Maserati Quattroporte sedan, is expected to add the Ghibli midsize sport sedan, which debuted late last week at the Shanghai auto show. Analysts say Fiat will begin producing the brand's Levante SUV at the Turin facility next year.
The company is investing €1.2 billion in Maserati to develop new models and retool the Turin factory. Fiat aims to boost the marque's sales to more than 50,000 vehicles by 2015 from about 6,000 units last year.
