Al Iacobelli, who has headed North American employee relations for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV since 2008, has abruptly retired.
Iacobelli, 55, is a Detroit native who joined Chrysler in 1993. He was vice president of union relations before moving to his most recent appointment seven years ago.
FCA named Glenn Sagena, head of human resources for FCA's operations in Mexico, to succeed him, effective immediately.
The unexpected executive shuffle comes as FCA begins national contract negotiations with the United Auto Workers union.
Sagena joined Chrysler's labor relations department 30 years ago. He holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Pennsylvania and a master's degree in organization/HR development from Case Western Reserve University.
