Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV is close to naming Pietro Gorlier to head its operations in Europe, sources tell Bloomberg News.

The appointment could be announced as early as this week as part of a broader company restructuring.

Gorlier has been CEO of FCA’s Magneti Marelli partsmaking company for three years. If appointed, he would succeed Alfredo Altavilla, who quit last month after being passed over for the company’s top position following the death of CEO Sergio Marchionne. Both men were close confidants of Marchionne’s.

Born in Turin, Gorlier joined Fiat’s Iveco truck unit 29 years ago and moved to the parent company in 2006. He had held multiple assignments in logistics, service operations, customer relations and dealership network management in Europe and the U.S.
