Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV is recalling 209,900 late model minivans and Jeeps worldwide to remove gas bubbles in the brake fluid that could give the brake pedal a spongy feel.

The recall covers 2018 model Dodge Journey crossover vehicles, 2018-2019 model Dodge Grand Caravan minivans, and 2018-2019 Jeep Compass (pictured) and 2019 model Jeep Cherokee SUVs.

FCA says improperly made brake system components could release gas into the brake fluid. If so, the brakes will continue to work but not at full efficiency. Dealers will bleed the brake systems to remove the gas.

FCA says about one-third of affected vehicles are still in dealer inventories. Nearly 75% of the targeted models are in the U.S.
