FCA Recalls Jeeps for Airbag Sensor Failures

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV is recalling 41,200 Jeep Cherokee SUVs in the U.S. to replace airbag sensors that may stop working.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the airbag system’s impact and acceleration sensors both may fail because of a defective solder connection on their electronic control circuit board. The poor connection could prevent the airbags from deploying when they should in certain types of crashes.
FCA notes that the defect will cause the airbag warning lamp to illuminate on the instrument panel. Dealers will replace the affected sensors. NHTSA says the recall is expected to begin in August.
