Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV is preparing two recalls in the U.S. to remedy safety problems in more than 167,000 of its cars, trucks, minivans and SUV/crossover vehicles.
The larger campaign targets the rear brake calipers in 154,300 of the company’s 2018-2019 model Jeep Compass SUVs (pictured), Dodge Caravan minivans and Dodge Journey crossover vehicles, and 2019 model Jeep Cherokee SUVs.
The rear brake pistons in those vehicles can form gas bubbles within the hydraulic brake system that reduce performance. Dealers will bleed the brake system to remove the bubbles.
FCA also is recalling 12,800 cars, trucks, minivans and SUV/crossover vehicles to replace their powertrain control modules. The component contains a voltage regulator chip that could fail, causing the engine to stall or fail to start.
The latter callback involves certain late-model Jeep SUVs, Chrysler 300x sedans and Pacifica crossovers, Dodge SUV/crossovers and minivans, Fiat 500x mini-crossovers, and Ram pickup trucks and Promaster commercial vans.
Both recalls are scheduled to begin at the end of September.
