Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV has reached preliminary approval with a federal judge in California to settle a class-action lawsuit over 526,000 vehicles with engine stalling problems, The Detroit News reports.
The deal covers 2011-2013 model Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs. Court documents show FCA has agreed to recall more than 460,000 of the affected vehicles and install a more durable fuel pump relay.
FCA also will reimburse owners for previous repairs to fix the problem, including rental car costs incurred, and extend its warranty of the component to 7 years from 3 years.
The News notes that last year FCA recalled 230,000 of its 2011 Durango and Grand Cherokee models to fix the same defect.
