Hybrid car maker Fisker Automotive Inc. has hired Joel Ewanick, General Motors Co.'s former global marketing chief, as interim head of global sales and marketing.
Ewanick has been acting as a consultant to Fisker, the company says.
He will fill the job until Fisker finds a permanent replacement for Chief Commercial Officer Richard Beattie, who is retiring after a year at the Anaheim, Calif.-based company.
GM ousted Ewanick in July over his handling of Chevrolet's sponsorship deal with English soccer giant Manchester United. He previously headed U.S. marketing at Hyundai Motor Co.
Fisker CEO Tony Posawatz played a role in recruiting Ewanick, according to Automotive News. Posawatz was chief engineer for GM's Chevrolet Volt extended-range hybrid sedan before joining the hybrid car maker in August from GM.
