The economic confidence of consumers and executives in June fell to the lowest level since October 2009 in the eurozone but remained stable across the broader EU, according to the European Commission.
The EC's eurozone sentiment index slipped to 89.9 from a revised 90.5 in May. Its measure of manufacturer sentiment dropped from -11.4 in May to -12.7 this month, the lowest level since February 2010.
EU-wide consumer and business confidence, which fell sharply from April to May, was unchanged at 90.4 this month.
Consumer confidence slid 0.5 points to -19.8 in the eurozone and 0.3 points to -19.7 in the EU.
The EC reports that its sentiment gauges fell most sharply in Europe's biggest economies, with declines of 1.5 points to 91.8 in France and 1.4 points to 100.5 in Germany. But the gauge rose in Italy (0.9 points to 79.7), Spain (1 point to 89.1) and the U.K. (1.9 points to 92.9).
