German Chancellor Angela Merkel has postponed a planned trip to meet with President Donald Trump in Washington, D.C., until Friday because of the severe winter storm expected to pummel the northeastern U.S. today.
Merkel was on her way to the Berlin airport when Trump called to reschedule the visit because of bad weather, Reuters reports. The notice came so late that she continued to the airport to tell reporters already on her government plane about the new plans.
When the two leaders meet on Friday, they are expected to discuss several complicated issues, including Russia, the Middle East and NATO. Merkel was to be accompanied by executives from BMW, Siemens and an unidentified third German company, according to the news service.
