Daimler Trucks Plans to Shed 2,100 Jobs

Daimler AG's truck business intends to eliminate as many as 1,300 hourly jobs in North America and 800 non-production positions in Germany, Handelsblatt reports.
Andreas Renschler, head of the commercial vehicle unit, tells the German newspaper that Daimler is already in talks with the United Auto Workers union about shrinking the U.S. workforce. The company also builds trucks in Mexico.
Daimler tells Bloomberg News the job cuts in Germany will be achieved through voluntary departures. It is unclear when the company expects to complete the headcount reductions.
Renschler vowed last year to boost Daimler Trucks' operating margin to the levels of rivals Volvo AB and Volkswagen's Scania unit.
