Daimler AG has unveiled its first Indonesian charging station for electric cars ahead of its introduction of electrified models there in 2019.
The four-bay facility in Jakarta will serve vehicles via a pair of 3.7-kW wall box chargers, The Jakarta Post reports. Daimler is branding the facilities under the name EQ Power.
The largely symbolic dedication comes as Indonesia begins to implement an EV strategy it outlined in February. Anticipated initiatives include steps to eliminate a 40% luxury goods tax on electrics and cut the import tariff on such vehicles to 5% from as much as 40% today.
The country, which boasts the largest economy in southeast Asia, also aims to develop government incentives to encourage the development of local EV production. The country has installed about 1,500 charger outlets, But nearly 75% of them are in Jakarta.
