Continental AG says a slump in orders has prompted it to consider closing a factory in Gifhorn, Germany, that makes hydraulic brake systems and motors for hybrid and all-electric vehicles.

Conti management wants to launch discussions with the plant's local union about cost-cutting measures to keep the facility open, according to Reuters. The factory employs abut 1,600 people.
