Continental AG has opened a 140,000-sq-ft addition to its electronics and software Technical Center India facility in Bangalore.
The expansion brings Conti's investment in the center, which houses 1,000 engineers, to €12 million ($14 million). The company says employment there is likely to reach 1,300 in the next few years.
The current expansion adds eight R&D labs. Much of the work there will focus on what Conti describes as "affordable and safe mobility."
The India center will support the company's chassis, vehicle dynamics, passive safety, sensor, interiors and advanced driver assistance systems business units. The facility is one of three Conti automotive technology hubs worldwide.
